WOW Film Festival’s Writers Forum
There are some great initiatives in Sydney to improve the status of women in the art world, from Alaska Project’s ‘Janis’ to the World Of Women’s Cinema film festival taking place right now, for the twentieth time. These are events showcasing powerhouses of artistic talent. The fact that they are women, is on some level not relevant, because they are simply great artists. What is relevant is that there is a discrepancy between women graduating from artistic institutions and those who we see given a significant spotlight. The festival is one of many initiatives doing a fantastic job at getting people to ask the right questions.
Although the festival has already been on for a number of days, you haven’t missed its best event. This Friday at the Power House museum, catch the WOW and Australian writers guild forum. Veteran playwright Katherine Thomson will be interviewing two of the best storytellers in the country, Louise Fox (winner of the NSW Premier’s literary award) and Jacqueline Perkse (AFI winner, and writer of Little Fish). Tickets are $15, and you can pick them up on the website at the bottom of the article.
