Work-Shop pres. Speech Therapy 2 + Competition
Speech Therapy: The finest rappers from Australia and across the world presented raw. Them, a microphone and your ears… And as if we needed anymore convincing to check it out, The Tongue just gave us 5 rhyming reasons…
1. For those who don’t know, what is Speech Therapy?
It’s a live show where ‘rappers’ are ‘re-framed’ as ‘poets’
It’s what they are already (but not too many know it)
They perform their lyrics without a DJ or beat, so you can hear clearly
he works they create in painstaking detail in the hope you cherish them dearly
Its merely 20 bucks! And for that you get plenty of bang
Plus the coolest rappers are down to earth and always keen to hang
So bring a friend and settle in, the words will blow your mind
On a Thursday night you cannot think of a better way to spend your time
2. The inaugural show had an amazing turn out. There were lots of open mouths and minds by the end of it. What have you got install for round two?
Round 2 will feature Rapaport, a rapper of great renown
You may have heard of his crew Loose Change, native to Sydney-town
He also runs one ‘Sketch The Rhyme’, another amazing show
And is known for rapping on grime beats with a most incredible flow
Did I mention he runs Big Village? A hip-hop label for thinkers
Well he does and they release magical music for lovers, dreamers and drinkers
The second guest is MC Mute, whose skills are second to none
His crew is Reverse Polarities, who are on the rise like the sun
He spits from the heart and the gut and he fights for all that is right with his words
Silly with similes and double-entendres and always armed with a fresh verb
The man who will head-line is I, The Tongue, my rap albums number at three
I’ve wanted to rhyme since I first heard a rhyme, and I grew up to be an MC
From battles to poetry slams to tours to mixtapes and back I’m a hustler
I love the power of words on a page and stay busting these rhymes like I’m Busta
3. What if I’m one of those annoying people that say “But I don’t like Aussie hip-hop”?
What is ‘hip hop’ but a man and his words? Surely you can’t hate that?
Perhaps you’ve only heard the worst and assumed the rest of it’s crap?
Truth is, each rapper is special, unique and rarely resembles another
So if you paint us all the same, you must be ignoring the colours
We come to speak our truth you see and help you share our vision
This isn’t bling-bling or booty polls, we have a different mission
All we want is to give you our art, painted with words, not a brush
And if you can’t respect sweet poetry….then you can go and get fucked
4. Tell us a about the people behind Work-Shop, because those boys deserve some credit.
The boys at Work-Shop are awfully clever, we call them Chester and Matt
Their minds are open, their hearts are pure; they love Yoga, design and rap
They support the arts when others run scared; they invest their time in others
For the greater good they keep digging deep until wonderful treasures are uncovered
I give them props for all they’ve done, now Speech Therapy has life!
And all they ask for is your support and a ‘thanks’ at the end of the night
5. Finish this sentence “Speech Therapy isn’t…”
Speech Therapy isn’t…shit
