Vice @ Goodgod
Every so often there's one gig that reminds me why I put up with those way-too-overcrowded sidewalks, overpriced (and often even watered down) booze and those often uncomfortable nightrider bus rides home and last Wednesday night at VICE was one such gig.
With free drinks flowing, free entry, great music, the cherry on top of this proverbial sundae was the location; GoodGod Small Club. GoodGod (aka babe central, babesville, if-goodgod-was-a-president-it'd-be-baberaham-lincoln, the one with the babes) is one of my favourite music venues in Sydney, second only to Oxford Arts Factory (they may not serve food but they give out free popcorn at the bar and I respect that), and the perfect location for VICE. Think 'We Go Together' from Grease.
The night was headlined by Turbo Fruits, bringing their Nashville garage rock sound to Australia for the first time, with Sydney locals The Upskirts, and You Beauty rounding out the bill and half of the DZ Deathrays spinning tracks till late. Highlights of the evening include pre-drinking in a UNSW dorm room, talking to Nick Stillman from The Upskirts, getting a free CD from him, almost convincing Turbo Fruits frontman Jonas Stein into giving me his sweet USA beanie, and the ~vibe~.
