Ten okay reasons Kate Moss deserves the BFC Special Recognition Award
The British Fashion Council (BFC) is set to honour ‘super’ Kate Moss this week at this year’s British Fashion Awards. The iconic model will receive a Special Recognition Award on account of her ongoing status as a style icon and her incredible success in the industry.
So here are ten okay reasons Kate Moss deserves it. And I say ‘okay’ because let’s face it; the woman isn’t exactly a role model.
1. She’s a bad bitch.
As I have already stated, she’s no role model, but isn’t that what makes her so great? Case in point; that time she smoked down the runway at Louis Vuitton during Paris Fashion Week despite it one, being illegal to do so and two, it was also the UK’s National No Smoking Day. And then there is the whole cocaine thing…
2. She doesn’t have social media.
That is right. You can try all you like but you’ll only find fake ‘Kate Moss’ accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. In a world obsessed with putting our lives online, that just makes her even more mysterious.
3. She nabs the spot for most covers.
In the modeling world, to get a ‘cover’ is a big deal. To get a Vogue/Harper’s/W/Numero etcetera, etcetera cover is an even bigger deal and Mrs. Moss has over 300 of those big-name covers to her name.
4. She’s almost 40.
If you’ve seen the recent St. Tropez tan campaign that features her then you will understand why this is relevant.
5. She’s rich.
Super rich. That myth that supermodels don’t get out of bed for less than $10,000? Turns out it’s true. You’ve got to be able to pay at least 10,000 big ones to get Kate on a job, and even then who knows if she’ll turn up.
6. She’s more than a model.
She’s also a mother, a wife, an Editor (at British Vogue), and has frequently co-designed collections with brands like Longchamp, H&M and Topshop. The latest Topshop-Kate Moss collaboration will be launched in April next year.
7. She’s an independent woman… well, sort of.
Her husband, Jamie Hince, couldn’t afford to buy her a wedding ring at the time that they were to get married and so she bought it herself. Good for her! (And at least she is guaranteed to like it.)
8. Have you seen her phone contacts?
Okay well we haven’t either but we can only imagine. Think about all her famous friends – Naomi Campbell, John Galliano, Carla Bruni, Paul McCartney, Marc Jacobs and the list goes on…
9. She pretty much defined the current state of the modeling industry.
This point may not be something to celebrate but you’ve got to give it to her, she single-handedly defined what makes a model today. She was the first ‘waif’ and fashion wouldn’t be the same without her.
10. She makes jam.
Apparently. And apparently it is awesome jam too.
