Mykki Blanco at Goodgod this weekend!
Mykki Blanco is the wide-ranging urban artist – a versatile, multi-talented (rapper, actor, author, poet are just some of her inclinations) and multi-gendered (Mykki is the feminine side of 24-year-old Michael Quattlebaum Jr.), armed with an impressive flow, an impeccable fashion sense, and a seamless blend of confidence and humility. The gender-bending, costume-shifting, LGBT-friendly New York rapper has been soaking up fame and accolades in the rap community for a couple of years now, grabbing attention from the eyes and ears of many with her work as photographer Terry Richardson’s muse (who chose the artist to be a part of his Happy Socks campaign along with model Ashley Smith and Harlem rapper A$AP Rocky), her own book of poetry (From The Silence Of Duchamp To The Noise Of Boys), as well as opening slots beside acts like Gang Gang Dance, and ARABMUZIK.
In stilettos, she kicks in the knees of the ‘rap’ stereotype, spitting her rhymes with a shameless reserve that encapsulates “let me dominate on every hatin’ motherfucker” (Feeling Special), and she does so oh-so well. In collaboration with the outrageous House of Mince (H / A \ M), GoodGod are bringing the MC spitfire to Sydney this Saturday for the long-awaited debut of her one-woman show, with some love from (my personal faves) Black Vanilla (DJ set), RY4, and Bhenji Ra.
Tickets are $30(+bf), and you can check out the Facebook event (or the GoodGod event) for more information!
See you there! ;)
