Mixtape: This One’s For My Friends
Sydney-based music website Skydreams is continuing its rise to dizzying new heights, with curator Nick Hollins announcing the site’s amalgamation into a music label. The first project to emerge from the newly founded Skydreams label is a mix-tape titled ‘This One’s For My Friends’. The release was compiled from 20 tracks mostly written by underground and unheralded bands and producers, as well as including a number of tracks from the secret bedroom projects from members of established and disbanded groups including The Laurels, East River, Ghosts of Television, Talons and Whipped Cream Chargers. Many of the tracks on the release had been hidden away in people’s rooms for some time, and contrastingly, much of the content had been assembled in the week leading up to the release.
The release of ‘This One’s For My Friends’ marks not only the first of many for Skydreams as a music label, but is also the first in a series of mixtapes that will be released quarterly with the intention of exposing never before heard artists and music from the Australian underground.
