Kino Kabaret - Call To Arms For Participants
KINO KABARET – CALL TO ARMS FOR PARTICIPANTS - THE CITY’S MOST COLLABORATIVE FILMMAKING CHALLENGE
Now in its ninth year, Kino Kabaret returns in December to dare Sydneysiders to get out of the cinema chair and behind the camera and tell their stories. Participants learn new skills, test out filmmaking equipment, and bounce ideas off each other all while making short films over 48 hours.
This is a call-out for aspiring and experienced directors, screenwriters, actors, lighting technicians, sound recordists, editors or just film enthusiasts with some bright ideas – all are needed. Samuel Hilton, Kino Sydney director, explains, “The weekend represents an opportunity for filmmakers or anyone with a spark of curiosity to access and use the tools of cinema to tell their stories to a local audience. “
Presented by non-profit Kino Sydney, in partnership with Sydney Film School, the 48-hour challenge goes from 6pm Friday 5 December to 6pm Sunday 7 December. All films will be premiered at a screening party on Monday 8 December at 107 Projects from 6pm.
Participants will meet on Friday night for a production meeting at Sydney Film School in Waterloo to form teams, cast their films, attend short equipment briefings, set out a shooting schedule and borrow professional equipment. From there teams will hit the streets of Sydney to complete their films. Come Sunday night, all films will be handed in, to be premiered on Monday night at a special screening party at 107 Projects in Redfern – with live entertainment, giveaways and foods.
For only $30, filmmakers get access to the production and casting meetings, free access to professional filmmaking equipment, advice and tips from filmmaking professionals, opportunities to network and form creative relationships, access to the Kino Lab working space at Sydney Film Festival, access to post-production stations and entry to the screening party. What’s more, they can invite their friends and family to join them in 107 Projects on Monday 8th to celebrate their achievements.
