Joostice is Served
There’s something about juice that makes you want to be a better person. Perhaps it’s all those vitamins. Perhaps it’s the sugar hit from slurping three pieces of liquid fruit in under 5 minutes. Perhaps it’s the virtuous act of ingesting kale, despite the fact that you needed half a green apple to help get it down your gullet.
If however, your juice is from Joostice in Newtown, you are elevated to levels of self betterment even higher than the average juice drinker. Being cold pressed, your Joostice juice will have a higher vitamin content and a more finessed texture than the grainy, fluffy stuff they make at the place near your office that has separated by the time you’re back at your desk. Buying your juice from Joostice also means you’re supporting a not-for-profit business that is helping fund public interest journalism.
Talking to Joostice’s Hugo O’Connor about public interest journalism whilst slurping on their most popular juice - the ‘Green Machine’ - is slightly difficult. Hugo speaks eloquently of the fight to get stories of human injustice heard in areas where journalists come under threat of death. He also just makes a damn good juice that I would like to give the joostice (sorry...I had to…) of my full attention. My Green Machine has a gloriously silky feel in the mouth - it’s a nicely balanced combination of flavours with a low fruit content that keeps it complex and interesting.
With their menu of well considered flavour combinations (there is a section intriguingly titled ‘I can’t believe it’s not cake’ from which Hugo recommends the ‘Creamsicle’), whether you want to get healthy, support public interest journalism or just slurp on something delicious, Joostice truly is the thinking (wo)man’s stop for liquid nourishment. So pop down to Newtown and get your juices flowing (sorry, just had to...again).
