FBi Turns 10 - 5 Acts Not To Miss
Last Thursday marked ten years of full time broadcasting for Sydney’s favourite community radio station FBi. To celebrate they’re throwing a huge party down at Carriageworks next Sunday. It’s not much of a secret anymore with tickets being close to sold out, but we’re here to give you a run-down of the line-up, with 5 class acts you just can’t miss.
Respected Sydney glitch-pop trio Seekae will be taking to the stage, showcasing their stunning wobbly electro beats. Their live show is always highly anticipated, as they create a form of energetic, atmospheric bliss to a level that most young outfits aren’t capable of. Seekae’s sound has be likened to acts such as SBTRKT and the vibes of Patrick Wolf. With such interesting methods of production and a live show that spans influences of many genres, captivating is certainly a perfect word to describe them.
This duo originate from the vast landscapes of the Blue Mountains and it definitely reflects in their live sound. Incorporating plush electronics and layered textures that complement their often bright afro-electro sound, they create a form of surreal escapism that’s ultra-fun. Given that their live show has been likened before to legendary act The Avalanches, we’re pretty sure that their set’s energy will be contagious and not one to miss.
Bleeding Knees Club
These guys are a three piece hailing from the summery vibes of the Gold Coast. Their sound is a variation of slacker pop-punk and their sets always seem to incite a party. With a set list that’s sure to include many of their favourite short, fast and loud tracks from the ‘Nothing To Do’ debut album, plus some of their killer new material, you can expect to leave this set bruised and sweaty.
The Blue Mountains must have had something good in their water as they’ve pumped out many a class act in the current scene, including two from this list. This time it is the hip hop collective Thundamentals, an act that don’t like be defined to the one genre. Dabbling before with brass instruments incorporated into their live show, these guys don’t like to shy away from a challenge. As they’ve stated previously they don’t just want to “put on a big live show…we wanna make an event out of it.” With those words in mind, and a back catalogue as impressive as theirs, it’s sure to be an exciting show.
Recently winning one of Australia’s most prestigious song writing competitions to the tune of $50 000, it’s safe to say that The Preatures are destined for big things in the near future. Led by the enchantingly sassy and talented front woman Isabella Manfredi, they manage to be the perfect blend of gothic soul and rock and roll. Their live show is always full of raw, infectious energy, and this set is sure to be no different.
