With Halloween approaching closer and closer, we see the influx of awesome Halloween parties over the next few days, not to mention all the birthday parties for venues! Clearly the end of October must be a great time to open a music venue… Don’t miss out on all these one-off parties, which are guaranteed to be some epic nights out.
Halloween feat. The Preatures & Tokyo Denmark Sweden @ Newtown Hotel –
Thursday, October 31.
This Thursday night Newtown Hotel are not only celebrating Halloween, but their birthday too, and are throwing a huge party in the process. They’ve managed to bring in the ever-so-sassy soul of Isabella Manfredi, leading The Preatures to celebrate. These guys have been achieving huge things as of late. Joining them on the night will be another local act on the rise, indie electro trio Tokyo Denmark Sweden. If somehow all of this just hasn’t sold you yet, I will mention that entry is completely free, and even the drinks are on Newtown Hotel. Yea, I know you’re sold now.
Jeremy Neale @ Goodgod
Small Club - Thursday October 31.
Jeremy Neale has been making waves over the past year now, originally leading that charismatic 12 piece circus of a band known as Velociraptor, but has recently been focusing on his solo material. This focus has definitely been a wise one, receiving critical acclaim from a multitude of tastemakers and has gone on tour with the likes of Ball Park Music, Surfer Blood and Gung-Ho within the past year. He recently stopped by on a co-headline tour with Feelings, and is back again for the release of his anticipated EP ‘In Stranger Times’. With his 50’s vibe, this guy really is a pop sensation and someone to keep an eye on.
Lady Killers feat.
The Fabergettes, She Rex @ The Standard – Thursday, October 31.
Girl power is back, this time in the form of rocking musical acts all set to a Halloween theme. The Standard has unveiled the line-up for their Halloween party this year, including all-girl fronted The Fabergettes, She Rex, The Dark Hawks and Lily So. The last time I saw the Fabergettes was on one of the Call The Cops tours and they performed alongside DZ Deathrays, Bleeding Knees Club and Yacht Club DJ’s. They definitely held their own on the night there and have grown performance wise even more since then. She Rex are also renowned for their perfect fuse of rock and hip hop, and are quite the live act to content with. Tickets are $15, make sure to grab them soon.
Birthday Party feat. @ Oxford Art
Factory – Saturday, November 1.
How quick have Oxford Art Factory’s six glorious years gone by?! To celebrate this affair they are once again throwing a humongous party that takes over the main bar and their gallery bar too. The gallery bar see’s BYO fave’s Kilter, Meare, Moonbase Commander and Kanyon take the stage, and the main stage’s line-up includes The Trouble With Templeton, OXBLVD, and Cabins. Not only all of this is included, but the Free Fall Cube Artists will be performing too. Venues truly must be appreciate of all support they receive, with entry being free to this also, and even a free drink with entry between 7 – 8 pm.
Glass Towers & The Holidays @ Cockatoo Island – Sunday, November 3.
Enjoying a cider in the summer sun, whilst watching great live Australian music on an island in Sydney Harbour… Sounds like a decent thing to get up to this weekend? This is exactly what Magner’s Sessions are, which are being held over summer, and have some of the best local talent around performing at them. This week, the acts couldn’t be more suited to the vibe that they create. Glass Towers will be showcasing tracks from their stunning debut album ‘Halcyon Days’ there, as will Sydney lads The Holidays. These guys have recently released the follow up single ‘Voices Drifting’, to their award winning debut album and are excited to showcase it live.
