BYO Sounds #40
Financial blues are no excuse to miss out on any of Sydney’s live music offerings this week, with an array of gigs being on offer that are only going to set you back around the ten dollar mark. Read on to assess your vast array of options for this weekend.
Sons of Alamo @ The Standard Bowl – Thursday, May 15th.
Sons Of Alamo have recently released their latest single ‘Where’d All The Good Times Go?’, and are doing a string of shows in support. Since winning a competition to take the stage at Big Day Out a few years back, these Central Coast guys have been relentlessly touring and realising actually really quality material, that hasn’t managed to gain the attention it deserves. With Bin Juice supporting, the fact that its lead singer Jordan’s birthday, free entry and free ten pin bowling, there’s really not much too complain about.
Gang Of Youths @ Newtown Social Club – Friday, May 16th.
Once again, comparisons to the next Springsteen is always going to be a claim to treasure. Sydney natives, Gang Of Youths have been making waves recently, back home but even conquering the US too. They’ve just dropped their single ‘Poison Drum’, to rave reviews of course and are ready to showcase it live.
East Of Ely @ MUM, World Bar – Friday, May 16th.
I’ll be honest, I hadn’t actually heard of these guys until recently, but wow I haven’t stopped listening since I did. Out of Sydney and with an only few tracks under their belt, East of Ely are responsible for that earworm that you may be familiar with ‘Easy Friend’. They’ve gained comparisons to Naked & Famous, Panama and more, so it will be very interesting to see where they manage to take this.
Sampology (DJ Set) @ Rad – Saturday, May 17th.
Sampology would be arguably one of the most renown Audio Visual DJ’s that this country has ever seen. With his work earning him appearances at everything from Edinburgh Fringe to Splendour to SXSW, it’s safe to say he’s a sure bet for an immersing show. Regardless of this just being a DJ set, it’s sure to still be captivating as hell.
Client Liaison @ Parkside – Sunday, May 18th.
Both of Client Liaison are pretty much that dude you know that somehow manages to be so fucking effortlessly cool, yet even stepped up a notch. Embracing their nostalgic Australiana image, they’ve managed to create ‘dance-electric-pop-ballads’ that have led them to performances at Laneway and Secret Garden Festival. These guys are going to big (with a significant emphasis on the ‘big’).
