BYO Sounds #30
Uni’s back, money’s tight, but we’ve found a few killer gigs that are good value for your (minimal) coin this weekend.
The Roller Den opening night feat. The Snowdroppers, The Khanz @ The Roller Den – Friday, March 7.
With turbulence within the grassroots music scene around Sydney and Melbourne over the last couple of years, it’s great to see even more venues opening up. The Roller Den is the latest venue to emerge out of The Imperial Hotel at Erskineville. The country-tinged sounds of Newtown’s The Snowdroppers will be heard closing out the night, with The Khanz, Born Lion, Thieves, The Dead Love and many more joining the lineup.
Nina Las Vegas, Cosmo’s Midnight, L D R U @ Goodgod Small Club - Friday, March 7.
Another huge bill for a small price, Nina Las Vegas has started presenting her own nights and has hand-selected an array of emerging producers from around the country. Cosmo’s Midnight, L D R U, Indian Summer, Playmode are all taking to the stage, with Basenj having a busy weekend, joining the night.
Sons of The East @ Upstairs Beresford – Saturday, March 8.
These guys are definitely ones to watch out for. With noticable comparisons to Mumford & Sons, in a good way, this has seen them land upcoming slots at boutique events such as Lost Picnic. Catch some fine local indie-folk, at a local venue.
Ryan Hemsworth @ Oxford Art Factory – Saturday, March 8.
When Future Classic and Astral People are presenting anything, you know it’s going to be killer. This time it’s Canadian beat-maker Ryan Hemsworth, who has been extremely sought after lately, even co-headlining the recent Secret Garden Festival. One of the most in-demand producers at the moment globally, this is a chance to catch him whilst he’s passing through the country. Early bird tickets are already sold out, so make sure to get in quick.
