BYO Beats #16
This week there are some absolute legends playing as well as another goddamn boat party...shit yeah!
Architecture in Helsinki @ The Metro w/ World’s End Press + The Harpoons, Friday 11th of April
Architecture in Helsinki at the Enmore was one of the first gigs I ever went to, so with nostalgia kicking in they were guaranteed a spot this week. Putting that aside, there is no denying their legendary status in this country with tracks like “Heart it Races” etched into our minds forever. They put on a spectacular live show riddled with kooky samples, heaving vocals and some of the finest hair do’s you’ll see in any band. With Worlds End Press and The Harpoons, two bands good enough to pull a hefty crowd on their own, providing the supports you should head down this Friday and enjoy one of the better live acts around.
Charades presents Dimensions Festival Sydney Launch Party ft. Mic Newman (Secret Warehouse Location) Saturday 12th of April
With 57 parties launching this festival in 24 countries around the world, Dimensions Festival is proving it means business. Happening in August in that party paradise that is Croatia, DIMENSION is renowned for being one of the very best festivals for lovers of electronic music in the world. With Charades being well aware of that reputation they lunged at the opportunity to organize the Sydney launch, grabbing Mic Newman as a headliner. This dude is one Australia’s most successful electronic musicians, having toured the entire globe over the years, whilst releasing tunes on some of the most well regarded labels (Tsuba and Freerange to name two). This is in a secret warehouse location so it’s BYO (FUCK YEAH!) and features slew of other acts including Tom Witheridge, James i.V. and TGMN so grab your tix here and get on down!
Soapbox Events w/ Nick Warren + Jody Wisternoff @ Bella Vista, Cockle Bay Wharf, Saturday 12th of April
Freaking boat parties. I just can’t get enough of them. The novelty will never wear off. Let us wear linen shirts and drink champagne in loafers till the end of time. The big bonus for this boat party comes in the form of Nick Warren and Jody Wisternoff, two old dogs with plenty of new tricks. Warren first started as a tour DJ with Massive Attack, moving onto residencies at some of the biggest clubs across the globe, and ultimately releasing a whopping eight albums proving to be nothing short of prolific. Performing as Way Out West, Wisternoff started out as a finalist for the DMC World DJ Championship, moved on to release four successful albums and currently wears the hat of radio disc jockey on his Frisky and Proton Radio shows each month. The cruise is departing from casino wharf at 10am and 12pm this Saturday so don’t be late!
