With January behind us, it’s time to kick start February the right way…. the art way! This week's shaping up to be an awesome and diverse week of exhibitions, so be sure to check some out!
What: "MA" Comic Book launch, Matt Huynh
When: Wednesday 5th Febuary, 6pm
Where: The Tate Gallery, 435 Glebe Point Road, Glebe
Fancy reliving your old comic book days? Well let Matt Huynh take you on a journey to Vietnam in his latest exhibition, "MA". The comic tells the beautiful story of a young married couple who were forced to flee their home from the Vietnam War. The comic explores the families experiences in Malaysia's Pulau Bidong refugee camp and raising two young boys there. Named one of Sydney's most innovative cultural contributors, don't miss out on seeing Huynh's work!
What: "Home Truths", Michael Taylor
When: Thursday 6th Febuary - Sunday 16th March
Where: .M Contemporary, 37 Ocean Street, Woollahra
Following a huge success with the "Young Artists Initiative" exhibition, .M Contemporary bring you Michael Taylor's "Home Truths". Is your bedroom a never-ending mess? Or are you a complete neat freak around the house? Well Taylor explores these personal spaces as a metaphor for individual identities. Through the fusion of illustration and abstraction, Taylor challenges the notion of representation and subsequently challenges the audience's perception of their personal spaces.
What: "Sculpture 2014"
When: Exhibition continues until Saturday 22nd February
Where: Brenda May Gallery, 2 Danks Street, Waterloo
Its time to celebrate all things sculpture at the "Sculpture 2014" exhibition at Brenda May Gallery. First held at Access Contemporary Art Gallery, this annual exhibition features an eclectic collection of sculptures made from all different mediums. Featuring artists from Australia and New Zeleand, expect to be blown away by the ever-evolving medium of sculpture!
What: "MLS022", Joe Wilson and BENNETT
When: CLOSES Sunday, February 9th
Where: Mils Gallery,
This is the final call to see BENNETT and Joe WIlson's "MLS022" at Mils Gallery. With a successful 2013, BENNETT is back in full force with Joe WIlson to explore the possibilities of a third dimension in their work. To explore this idea, the artists experiment with landscape and abstraction painting to make sculptural compositions. This creates a literal expression of surface and implied space. Head down today or you will miss out!
