So it's that time of the month when you start realising that your new years resolutions are starting to slowly slip away…. At least you don't have to worry about your culture slipping away, as we've got you covered! Head out to some cool exhibitions around town to kick start those 2014 ambitions...
What: Johnathan Delafield Cook: New Drawings
When: 7-25 January
Where: "Olsen Irwin Gallery", 63 Jersey Road, Woollahra
Johnathan Delafield Cook is a UK based contemporary artist, working primarily with drawings. In his new drawings, Delafield Cook explores the intimate forms within living sea creatures and their fragility. Each creature is portrayed as an isolated form against a vast white background, evoking ideas of specimens in the laboratory and also suggesting the artificial environment of the photographic studio. Delafield Cook is a technical master, so head down to the gallery to see the incredible intricacy of his drawings.

With so much promotion on social network these days, it's always fun to go to an event you don't know everything about. The Tate have the right idea with their exhibition "B&W", which simply is "a group exhibition of greyscale works on paper". The style and subjects of the work is a mystery, but they have revealed a stellar line up of Numskull, Chris Yee, Will Coke, Roach, Tom Schwaiger, Luschia Porter and whole heap more. So head on down to check it out!
What: The Chrown's Anniversary Party
When: Thursday January 23rd, 6pm
Where: "The Beach Road Hotel"
Does a combination of art, music, food and cheap beverages tickle your fancy? Yeah, we thought so. Well the guys at "The Chrown" have it sorted to celebrate their anniversary, they are putting on a night to remember. In collaboration with "Eastudio", they will be putting on an exhibition of The Chrown's designs from a range of artists. Head down early so you don't miss out on $2 hot dogs!
What: The Cider Series
When: 14 January - 28 February
Where: "Kings Cross Library", 50-52 Darlinghurst Road, Kings Cross
Looking forward to kicking off the weekend with a nice cold beverage after work? If you're choice is cider, pop into "The Cider Series" and never think of cider the same way again. "The Cider Series" exhibits 12 paintings of cider bottles by Amala Groom as a critique of what Groom terms the "Colonial Project". Cider and the Colonial Project are a strange pairing you may be thinking…. so head down to find out Groom's clever parallel between the two!
What: Beijing Silvermine
When: 11th January - 22nd February
Where: "4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art", 181-187 Hay St, Sydney
Struggling to ditch that throbbing hangover from the night before? Distract yourself with some beautiful photographs in "Beijing Silbermine". This exhibition is a unique collection of photographs that capture everyday life and sightings in China post Cultural Revolution. The collection was formed from family archives and other sources, giving these anonymous subjects significance in depicting a period of immense social change. Venture down and it will be hangover blues no more!
