Bluesfest announces first artists for 2016
By James Sherley
Stalwarts of the Australian festival scene – Bluesfest, have announced the first fifteen artists for their 2016 installment only a few months after wrapping up this year’s extravaganza edition, which included sets from the likes of Ben Harper and The Innocent Criminals, Alabama Shakes and Gary Clark Jr.
Not ones known to disappoint, the announcement is headed by a special one off performance from art-rock royalty The National, and joined by the return of City & Colour, festival favourites The Cat Empire, not to mention Shakey Graves, Willie Nelson’s son Lukas and his band Promise of The Real, and blues guitarist Joe Bonamassa to highlight a few.
With arguably the most diverse and in-depth consistent bills across the Aussie festival landscape, they’ve certainly seemed to be including a more contemporary selection in recent years, in addition to the classic acts booked that have kept the festival alive for 27 years. The 2015 festival saw the addition of acts such as Sticky Fingers, Boy & Bear, Angus & Julia Stone and British India. The promoters have promised this year’s bill will be as diverse as ever, featuring everything from reggae, jazz, Americana, alt-country, folk, indie, hip, soul, neo soul and “just about every style of modern music that is played by human beings for their heart and soul”.
This announcement is only one of eight to come, so keep your eyes peeled on the website and grab your early bird tickets now if you like the way this is heading.
