BIGSOUND Live drop first artist announcement
By James Sherley
Australia’s closest answer to Texas’ SXSW spectacle - BIGSOUND, has announced the first round of artists for the live component of the conference. Taking place over three days in September across Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley, the festival incorporates a wide span of industry seminars, discussions, and panels all dedicated to bettering our local industry, alongside the live showcasing of 140 local and international acts performing across 14 venues.
The first 50 of these artists have been unveiled this morning, with the genres being represented being impressively strong. Innovative weirdo-disco, old-school drongo punk, the ever present indie denominations and some ground breaking electronic and hip hop, make up just a handful of these acts including Pearls, Sunbeam Sound Machine, Donny Benét, Gang of Youths, City Calm Down, Moonbase Commander and the elusive return of Muscles.
BIGSOUND have already announced the first round of guest speakers, including ex-Federal Arts minister, activist and Midnight Oil front man Peter Garrett, US rapper/activist Brother Ali and an impressive collective of industry figureheads across international and home grown tastemaker labels and agencies.
It all takes place September 9th – 11th, with tickets for both the conference and live components currently available over at the BIGSOUND Website. (link - http://www.qmusic.com.au/bigsound/2015/)
