Young Henrys – Beer Brewed By the People For the People.
Like most great adventures, Young Henrys started with a conversation over a beer. In this case it was lovers of great beer getting together to discuss hopes and dreams for the Australian craft beer industry. Young Henrys was born out of a need for a local Sydney beer that was innovative, passionate, adventurous and fun.
Two years on and our second feature later, Young Henrys are fast becoming the go to beer for Sydney locals who appreciate quality, hand crafted beers, that are easy to drink made from natural ingredients and are nastiness free. With their care of produce and cavalier attitude, Oscar and the Young Henrys crew balance brewing easily enjoyable, approachable beers made for everyone, whilst unleashing their finest brew skills to push the envelope with new craft beers (that luckily for us, are always boldly produced in full batches). The in house tasting bar offers the perfect introduction to what’s new at the brewery and is a great place to re-acquaint yourself with the classic Young Henrys range.
Oscar’s top three favourites include:
The Newtowner: Made for Newtown’s 150th birthday, this beer celebrates the local community and its support for local producers. It is a best seller in many local pubs and is a golden refreshing summer ale with great malt and hop characteristics.
The Hop ale: At 6% it is a much bigger beer. Smooth malt with a truckload of Aussie Hops added throughout, this beer has a big aroma and firm bitterness.
The Belgium Farmhouse ale: A collaborative project with The Smith Journal, the recipe was published in The Smith Journal specifically scaled down for home brewers to make at home, highlighting Young Henrys passion for crafting quality accessible beers.
Expansion in the near future? Installing the new extra tanks to meet growing demand (because once you’ve experienced a good craft beer it really is hard to go back to a generic big branded beer) is first on Oscar’s agenda. After that the plan is to start pairing the great flavors of Young Henrys beers with great food. So soon we will be able to find our favourite beer sitting in our favourite local eating spots, bringing the best of both worlds together.
Come and meet Young Henrys and it’s makers in person at the Nixon Project launch party, 35 Foster St Surry Hills this Sunday March 9th from 12 – 9pm.
