Babylikestopony Store Event
On Saturday we were invited to the new season launch of Darlinghurst lingerie boutique, Babylikestopony.
Greeted by the gorgeous hostess/owner Meg Whaite with a glass of champagne, we take in the atmosphere, as we wait for the show to begin.
Much like an installation collection in a gallery setting, delicate wire frames adorning the strikingly unique pieces from labels such as Bordelle, Lascivious and La Fille D’or. Each beautifully merchandised corset dress or bra and brief set teamed with the occasional matching suspender, focuses on key themes.
There is a strong sense of graphic line in all the strapping details. A hint of fetish with leathers mixed back with sheer mesh and softened with delicate laces. The well-edited collections flow smoothly throughout the store and present a clear message.
The show begins with three vixens (Elfie Mahe from StarSystem, Sarah Budge, Newsha Syeh) walking out in a mix of leather outerwear and key corset belts crafted by label Paul Seville. The sheer pony head embellished top by Serpent and the Swan is instantly talking point.
My personal favorite piece of the show is the Paul Seville lace up corset featuring a blonde ponytail bound in leather, holstered at the back. A cheeky play on the store name Babylikestopony, this statement piece definitely created a commotion as the girls paraded to the storefront, located on busy South Dowling Street.
As the champagne continues to flow, stylist Samara Wilson kept things exciting with a series of looks featuring delicate black and gold lace (Bordelle), a striking black and emerald ombre string story (Made by Nikki) and sexy cut out details (Lascivious) all sleekly teamed with hints of leather, sheer shirting and softly tailored suiting.
In between each story we watch hair and makeup looks from Deborah Brider (hair) and Diane Dusting (makeup) develop to match the more sultry looks as the evening unfolds.
All in all, the event turned heads both in store and on street level, and was a fun playful mingling of interesting people with a common appreciation for the more brazenly beautiful things in life.
